Shoemaking relies on the skills of numerous craftsmen: the last maker, the pattern maker, the clicker and the upper cutter. All the cut pieces are stitched together to form the upper; the shoemaker does the rest.
All of these skilled craftsman work together in our specialist workshop in Marylebone.
Our biomechanical assessment investigates any issues you are experiencing. We take a close look at the mechanics of the foot and other areas of the lower limb, taking into account a range of factors including foot posture index, arch height, foot pronation and pelvic stability.
We use this to determine the range of movement in the joints, including big toe, ankle, knee and hip. We also locate any callouses on the foot, as indicators of pronation type, foot movement and areas of excessive pressure during walking or running.
We assess muscle length and flexibility, which may affect movement, for hamstrings, calves and quads, and carry out a neural dynamic assessment to determine whether the nervous system is causing any issues.
We carry out foot measurements both in prone state and standing, and assess standing posture to identify any irregularities: toe in or out, knock knee or squinting patella. By the end of this stage, we have a good understanding how the joints, muscles and nerves are functioning.
