Feet of different sizes, bunions, swelling, wide toes and a narrow heel, a fallen arch, an inherited deformity, an amputation or an injury – perhaps you think you have ‘problem’ feet. We prefer to think of them as unique, like every other foot.
The ready-made compromise
Ready-made shoes, like ready-made clothes, are cut and shaped to standardised patterns and measurements. Sizing varies from country to country and between manufacturers, but all off-the-shelf products have one thing in common: they require the customer to choose a ‘best fit’ rather than a perfect fit.
With footwear, the compromise is not only between sizes, but also between left and right – your feet are not a perfectly matching pair.
This is where we come in.
The perfect fit…
From the detailed measurements and impressions taken during the initial consultation, we make a last – a wooden model – of each foot. This is important; the right and left lasts are not mirror images of each other, but are created individually.
Each last maker has their own way of measuring the foot, and their own technique for achieving a perfect last, which the rest of the team need to be familiar with to accurately cut and shape the leather. (This is why we insist on taking measurements from all our footwear customers in person.)
…For both feet
Many of our customers have previously spent their adult lives choosing between shoes that pinch on one foot and shoes that slop around on the other. Many more have endured discomfort in both feet, or resigned themselves to wearing shoes they don’t like because anything else is too painful.
Because all our shoes are made to your measurements, you won’t have to choose a size or a style based on what is least uncomfortable. We can’t make your feet smaller or change their shape, but we can create beautiful footwear to your design, with room, comfort, support and flexibility where it is needed – for both feet.
